This is why I feel so damn optimistic for the human race in spite of the incredible damage wrought by our political and business "leaders".

The Wikipedia project now has a WikiMedia commons project where all kinds of media can be shared, and Wikibooks where oodles of textbooks are shared, Wiktionary which is a multiligual dictionary, Wikiquote which is a compendium of quotes, Wikispecies a directory of life on Earth, Wikinews free and open news, and now they are beginning a Wikiversity (the proposal is here and you can vote on it).

The net has lots of free online textbooks, dictionaries, news sources, etc., so what is so special about these? You can edit and add to the pages. This is revolutionary. They are applying what has been learned from Wikipedia (the fastest growing encyclopedia in the world) to other realms of human knowledge. This is truly exciting stuff.

(Incidentally, a glimpse into the power of these projects is if you reload each of those addresses above without the "en." prefix. Each takes you to an index into different language versions of the respective sites.)

How can we respect WikiNews?
Where is the 'Have They' article on the Ashton/Demi marriage?

I'm disgusted!

(The ScienTOMogy site is great, though)

This looks really impressive - I just had a quick look through before I attend to the crucial matter of dinner :-) I wish all information was disseminated like this. It would make me a bit nervous to be reliant on donations for achieving said dinner, however. Is that how the people responsible for Wiki make their income?

So did Demi and Ashton or not.... [runs away]

But that's just the first phase. Soon they'll be building Wikicars that we can travel down the Wikifreeways with while listening to Wikimusic on our Wikistereos.

I'm just kidding. This actually does sound cool.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Wikiheadache, so I'm going to go take some Wikiaspirin. You know, if you take WikiBayer for your headaches, it can also decrease the chance of you having a Wiki-Heart attack.

Heheheh :) You jest, but you are not far off the truth. Wikicars and wikistereos, and possibly even wikiaspirin, are quite likely to be happening very soon. The future just keeps getting more exciting.

Watch for my next post. I gotta go out in a moment, but I'll post when I return in several hours.
