power surge protector ha!!
Saturday, 22 October 2005 06:49 amLooks like the phone line power surge protector in the plug board that I bought some months back does sweet F.A. Last night's electrical storm destroyed yet another modem.
The weird thing is that even though I am now using my ancient 14.4k modem it doesn't seem any slower than the bright, shiny new 56k modem. Granted the lines are so crappy here that I had to force my 56k modem to fall back to 36.6k, but still... you'd think 14.4 would feel much slower. Maybe it was getting lots of errors and resends even at 36.6k!
The joys of living in the country. When the Telstra sale is completed (presuming anybody wants to buy the lying deceitful management) I don't like my chances of the lines out here ever being fixed. Wireless will probably be the way to go. Though with half a kilometer or more being the distance between neighbors around here, it could be a problem.
