He acceded to requests from other department members and resigned the chairmanship of the religion department at U. of Kansas. He remains a professor, probably tenured, but I imagine he's fixin' to write a letter:

I've only been in Kansas a couple of times, but i lived a bit south of there in Oklahoma, and we thought of Kansas as insanely dull.
No. Tell a lie. "We thought of Kansas" grossly overstates our attitude. It's like there was a huge vacuum above Oklahoma. Which was a good thing, because Texas sucks.
this is toooooo much. as someone wondering right now why I am going through all of this bogus to try to gain tenured status, let us say this does not exactly encourage me to see american academia in a positive light.
