There is a big uproar again about the moslem cleric who suggested this some time back. I don't know why it is taking such a long time to react to his stupidity. A moron like this has a position of authority and influence in the community??

It amazes me, you know. I've heard christian guys say the same kind of things too. The half-wits must have a very low opinion of themselves to admit that they're so lacking in self-control that women need to fear for their safety around them.

And they blame the women!

This is like blaming pedestrians for being hit by cars when bad drivers lose control and run off the road onto the footpath. Stupid pedestrians! They persist in walking along footpaths. They're just asking to be run over.

Additional:
It occurs to me that I terribly understated the culpability of rapists. They are not like bad drivers who accidentally lose control of their vehicles running onto the footpaths to hit pedestrians. They are horrid creatures who cruise the streets looking for lone pedestrians so that they can deliberately swerve up onto the footpath and run them down.
Rapists deserve not one iota of our sympathy.

Even the Muslim women think that Hilaly is a total turkey - though they may have expressed it more elegantly than that! I think his own people have moved fairly quickly on him though; they know the damage these comments have done and will do.

Some fuckwit (to use a polite term) on the bus the other day said something similar, saying that "the way kids dress these days" girls shouldn't whine if they get raped 'cause it's no wonder, what with them low-cut jeans...

The presence of my 13-year-old Little Sister prevented me from verbally ripping her a new one. What I said came out like, "I'm going to have to respectfully disagree VERY STRONGLY with you, and not wish to talk with you further."

:)
What bothers me most is that he is a symptom of wider feelings about women being responsible for rapes. Even police have been known not to pursue rape charges when the woman in question was scantily clad.

"It's hardly the guy's fault if you're a prickteaser." I've heard many say this kind of thing -- some even otherwise fairly intelligent people.

Most of the moslems here have a good deal more sense than that idiot Hilaly. They won't speak such crap aloud, or at least in public, but I betcha many of them, and plenty of their christian brothers, think the same way.

Good for you! :)

I would have found it incredibly difficult to control myself. I would probably have rounded on her like a snake cornering a rat and hissed at her, shame on her for venturing out without her burka or at least a headscarf! And showing her ankles and calfs is disgusting. Plus she should wear gloves! Doesn't she know the erotic allure of women's hands? And lips! They should definitely be kept out of sight, look at all the poetry and song connecting lips and sex. The fool! If she gets raped she shouldn't blame the male.

I'm quite proud of my analogy with pedestrians on footpaths being run over by bad drivers. Now you have a neat weapon to wield against any such dummies you meet in the future. I'm positively itching for someone within my hearing to blame women for rapes now. :D heheheh

One thing that annoys me is that many of the media voices which are most stridently attacking this guy's comments are the same ones which get upset by suggestions that there be any tests of English language skills or affirmation of Australian values by immigrants.

This cleric has been here for over 20 years, still speaks mostly Arabic, and held the same opinions 20 years ago. It's a rarity, but I have to agree with Today Tonight's suggestion: Robert Ray should never have allowed him to stay here in the first place.

I made a slight addition to my point. I realised that I'd been unreasonably light in my judgement of rapists. They are not just weak, irresponsible, dopes. They are far worse. I paste it in here so you don't have to visit the page again:
