change the world by design

An amazing TED talk by a young architect who realised that architecture had the potential to fix many of the world's problems, except we had been approaching it the wrong way. He has begun a project to use the open source model of many people working on something along with the use of relatively cheap computer controlled cutting machines to give networked people the means of production.
Really transformative stuff. People are using this to help rebuild in Christchurch, New Zealand after the earthquake, and in favelas in Rio de Janeiro. At the moment the models are fairly plain and unadventurous, but I'm sure when a number of brilliant young minds get ahold of this we will see very inspiring and practical designs start to grow the way Linux has from its humble beginnings.
