I've finished my course of medical treatment! Yay!
For 2 years I've dealt with being constantly tired and out of breath, having most of my hair fall out, losing dangerous amounts of body weight (I'm naturally skinny), and trying to think with a fuzzed-out brain. Now my mind is already starting to speed up again and I don't need to sleep as much. The doctor tells me it will take about a month to really come good again, my hair will probably grow back (gulp), and I should start looking less like a walking stick-insect soon. :)
Over the coming weeks expect more posts from me. Yay!

Date: 2009-05-11 10:54 am (UTC)Hmmmm. Congratulations seems like the wrong saluation, and you seem to have covered the 'Get Well Soon' part.
I'm all out of pre-packaged Hallmark ideas, so: yay!

Date: 2009-05-11 09:43 pm (UTC)I'll be pouring a much of this rising energy into a project I've tried to do and been unable to complete (due to technology problems) several times before. This time I think I've made the right technology choices and I expect to get it done. It is to produce a short work of 3D fiction, where you wander around inside a story.
Incidentally, I was shown this recently. Thought you'd get a kick out of it.

Date: 2009-05-11 09:49 pm (UTC)The Exams Of Doom! I always hated them.
Now I am better able to I restarted "Sex Without a Story..." and am enjoying it immensely. I didn't make it through it last time -- my fault, not the story's.

Date: 2009-05-11 09:53 pm (UTC)Oh, goodness, the novel I wrote when I was 15! Hides under a pillow. Laughs. I haven't looked at that in AGES. I finished two in November and now I don't have any novels I'm working on. It's a travesty! But I have a lot of ideas based on my courses. Science always inspires me to write, even if it isn't science fiction I am inspired to write.

Date: 2009-05-11 09:54 pm (UTC)I didn't tend to post much about it because, well, other people have their own problems. :)
I almost didn't post the announcement above, but did so partly to let everyone know why I've been ignoring the world, and partly so I have a note recording the event for my crappy memory. :)

Date: 2009-05-11 10:07 pm (UTC)Heheh :) It is a fun story.
Where are the ones from November? I'd love to read them. Two! -- in one month! Energy has a new definition; it is "cranky crocus".
Yes. I was reading New Scientist the other day and they were reporting on a theory that explains how rains get transported hundreds or thousands of kilometers in from the coast in some places, and why it doesn't in others. It seems to indicate the moisture-laden currents may be powered by forests. Chop or burn coastal forest and rains hundreds of of kilometers away dry up. It also raises the opportunity of repairing the many man-made deserts: plant forests on the coasts and as the new rains reach them propagate the forest path further inland to set up a conveyer-belt for rain clouds. It sparked off a whole heap of ideas that will be appearing in one of my crappy stories soon.

Oh, now now! I'm certainly not very energetic. A bit dogged occasionally, but surely that's only because I procrastinate so much! (Sometimes intentional, sometimes from pure panic--one's writing and one's work, can we guess which?)
The rain thing makes me think about locusts. I know rain tends to affect when they flare up, given their eggs require moisture and they need the vegetation to munch and a bit of heat too. Hmm hmm hmm. Apparent that I have been revising too much!

Date: 2009-05-11 10:26 pm (UTC)Yes, I'd love to read them, but don't send them till after your exams finish. I don't want to distract you.
Locusts are interesting creatures -- brilliantly adapted to boom bust ecological cycles. When swarming they act like a super-organism; other times they are non-social.

Date: 2009-05-11 10:30 pm (UTC)Chuckles. I'm fine with sending before my exams finish. :D Just an email sent over! There are far more terrible forms of procrastination.
I love that about locusts, that they're just grasshoppers that have the ability to live gregariously. To change morphology within one generation! And behaviour instantly, just by some jostling of the femur, pretty much! It's amazing to me. And the actual swarm, as well--in the dense centre of it, the locusts are flying every which way, all confused and the lot. Opportunistic species.

Date: 2009-05-12 12:13 am (UTC)Just saw a piece the other day that some researchers have found that serotonin kicks locusts over into gregarious behavior. Can't remember what they said triggered the change in serotonin levels. Ah. That's it: touching their back legs. It was on an Australian science program called Catalyst.

I notice from your LJ you've been a bit down. Hope it's not for long and that you bounce back again soon like you always seem to. Indestructible H.
Glad to hear you are wanting to write again. Always loved your stories.

Date: 2009-05-13 12:40 pm (UTC)I was getting what was hopefully a cure for a viral infection (we'll find out for sure when I'm tested in a month). Because viruses are so damn hard to attack the treatment tends to be kinda toxic. On top of that, I'm quite skinny and don't like to eat, and unfortunately this treatment gets more toxic the less body mass you have.
keep getting better

Date: 2009-05-18 05:56 am (UTC)Hope you are well and happy.
In a way the treatment had an unexpectedly calming influence on my mind. Now I've stopped, my mind is racing in fruitless circles faster than ever before. Hope it doesn't take too long to come back down to normal. Doctor thinks maybe a month. In the meantime I jiggle and dance to music once again. Yay!
Re: keep getting better
Date: 2009-05-18 05:10 pm (UTC)I'm going some cyclical mood things with a period of 3-4 days as they take me down off of one of my drugs.
Everything affects the brain. They should just say that on the bottle. Or when they give you a drug let you put your brain in a jar till they're done.
Apart from that I'm disgustingly healthy: mowing the lawn, making web pages.
Keep on dancing (dancing and a-prancing).
love,

Date: 2009-05-18 11:39 pm (UTC)Yes. Even milk!
The medication I was on made sleep difficult (paradoxically I was constantly tired). They offered me tranquillisers, but I refused them, being able to use my knowledge of the marvellous relaxing, sleep-inducing powers of warm milk to help.
Pop a glass of milk in the microwave oven for 2 minutes, drink it, and about 20 minutes later sleep comes much more easily.
The dancing and jiggling is great. I so missed those parts of life.
Hope you get through your experiences without too much difficulty. Glad you do seem to be. Keep on being disgustingly healthy. The world needs people like you.
