fan fixed!
Jun. 24th, 2012 08:39 amYay! I'm feeling pretty good about myself right now. The fan on my computer has been giving me trouble for the past month or two. Suddenly this morning it started whining. I leave my computer on for months at a time, so it wasn't that it had just started up.
This constant loud noise sucked badly. Most people at this point rush out and buy another power supply, but firstly, I don't have a car and live more than half an hour's drive from the nearest computer shop, and secondly I don't really have the money to spare on a new power supply. Thirdly, the thought of replacing a whole power supply just because of a shoddy fan chafes at me.
So I pulled out the soldering iron, opened up the computer, removed the power supply, opened it up, pulled out the bad fan, and soldered in a new fan I just happened to have bought ages ago. Then I re-assembled the whole thing.
Ta da! Nice quiet computer. Yay!
