"Don't be such an alarmist. I've clambered down hills before."
"But this is a 1,000 foot sheer drop. I don't think you'll survive this."
"How do you know? Have you ever tried it before?"
"Well no, but common sense..."
"Then shut up. If you can't definitively prove it then I'm not interested."
"At least slow a bit till you can see how far down it is."
"No way! This is a race -- maintaining our lead is everything."
"You won't win anything at all if you plunge 1,000 feet to rocks below."
"Look I've told you before -- I'm not slowing without incontrovertible evidence."
"Can't you turn to go along the top of the cliff? You'll be running just as fast and showing how manly you are, you just won't go over the edge."
"That's ridiculous! You can't go ahead by turning to the side."
"Who says? Doesn't it depend on what you consider 'ahead' to be?"
"Who are you? Some sort of radical? What do you care what I do?"
"Well, it's a three-legged race and we are tied together. You go over the edge and so do I."
"Wimp! No pain no gain. And don't you dare consider stopping or lying down or even slowing. We could lose the race and I won't tolerate that."
"Oh! What a good idea. I never thought of that." Promptly lies down.
The two of them skid to the edge of the cliff. Did the person lie down in time? Or did they both fall into the abyss?
