What are the leaders of the world thinking? Are they naturally simple-minded? or do they work at it?

I was wondering this tonight while watching the dog play with the cat. Here was an example of 3 species understanding each other. The dog knew not to play too roughly with the cat, the cat knew the dog meant no harm, and I could see what both felt. Now if we can have 3 totally different species get along like that why can't we have the world's leaders -- supposedly intelligent members of this single human species -- understand each other?

For example:

We have Saddam Hussein, a thug and an idiot pushing to obliterate either himself or his neighbors -- and for what? In the long term there is nothing to be gained by such suicidal brinkmanship. It is obvious to any child.

And his current enemy George W. Bush. That guy is a fool if ever there was one. Just what he thinks there is to be gained by casting the USA as the world's biggest bully nobody can guess. If he thinks a tough-guy stance will help deflect future terrorist acts then he is even more stupid than he appears. Clearly it can only worsen matters.

The head of Israel is a twit beyond description. I wonder how many more suicide bombings must Israel endure before its people come to realise that the idiot at the helm is largely to blame for them? Why in heaven's name do they think these are occurring? Could it be because the Palestinians are so opressed that some minority of them feel that such drastic action is justified?

And how about the suicide bombers themselves and the cowards directing them? What incredible fools they must be. How can they possibly feel that killing innocents makes them any better than those they hate? And how can they think it will bring compassion for their brothers and sisters? What horrifyingly misguided jerks.

What about our Australian prime minister? Truly a mental midget -- here is a man who longs for the 1950s; the era of the double standard. Where America leads, he blindly follows -- a fool following a fool. This nasty imbecile played the racist card at the previous election, hoping to ride hatred of others to electoral victory. He won, but only by showing his bitter and evil face.

How in hell do these stupendously idiotic numbskulls get into positions of power? Is is some kind of prerequisite that they be so driven and lopsided that they spend all their time scheming and none of it learning about life and humanity and good sense?

Three entirely separate species can play and enjoy their mutual understanding here in this bedroom. The most powerful humans on the planet don't even have the depth of insight of a dog, a cat, and a half-wit artist.

What a strange world.

You know what they say: the ones most qualified to lead us don't want to. Saints and samaritans get kneecapped by the most driven and selfish, it's only the most vicious that make it to the top of the crapheap, and nice guys finish last. It's just how the system works, and that's why the system doesn't. It promotes conflict, aggression and self-interest on the part of the leaders and parties, and the citizenry are just playing chips to be shuffled around, hoarded and/or sacrificed in order to win the game of their careers.

The sad fact is - and I hate to be bleak - but I think it'll take a colossal catastrophe to blow us out of this and provide an opportunity to implement a rethink. And, even then, I think we'd still revert to the same old perpetuation of jungle survival mentality, an assumed posture of kill-or-be-killed. I can't imagine us, as a species, ever losing that.

We're too brilliant to die and too stupid to live.
