Our slimy little prime minister has awarded himself and extra $20,000 per year pay rise along with all the other politicians getting pay rises. This is at the same time as they bring in measures to reduce the average Australian's pay.

Over on this side of the pond, they just repealed most of the estate tax and then defeated an increase in the minimum wage (which hasn't been raised from US$5.15/hr since 1997 and is at the lowest level ever relative to inflation). The estate tax cut will cost us about US$280 billion over 10 years--but I suppose we're supposed to sleep better knowing that's only 75% of what the full repeal that the Republicans originally wanted would have cost us.
