Haha! That's a cool picture. The guy on the left's face is like, "Bzuh?". I clicked the link and the other comments are intersting. I wonder what the story behind this picture is.

Although I'd like to think it was spontaneous and natural, I can't help feeling it was posed in order to test the boundaries. The fact that nobody in the background of any of the images seems to care is probably the best thing about these pics.

Very encouraging attitude from a country containing a third of the world's population, especially considering how they are becoming a major economic power in the world now.

I don't think I'd be too comfortable kissing in public in Australia, even though it is probably one of the freeer nations in the world. I presume Canada would be similar to Australia. The USA would be too darned scary considering the record of beating and murdering gays over there. England, I'd be reluctant to kiss in public after the Thatcher government brought in anti-gay laws (even though I have a feeling they may have been repealed). Most of the northern and western European countries would be safe I'd expect. You'd be better placed than me to comment on Japan... I'd presume it would be safe.

So... not a great track record for the West -- the supposed bastion of freedom. It is encouraging that China seems to be moving forward better than we are in some respects. For now I still prefer to live here in Australia, but I wonder when they will zoom past us? Our politicians and "leaders" seem hell-bent on returning us to the 1950s, the era of lies, conformity, and double-standards, instead of moving forwards.

Depends where you are in Canada... I'm ALWAYS making out with my girlfriend in public and holding hands and whatnot... I've only gotten about 3 comments that were negative in nearly (adds it up in head) a year and eight months... Generally people don't care or it's obvious they think it's cool that being queer is so accepted. So, Ottawa, safe and comfortable most of the time. It's also safe to say fuck off if people are being assholes about it. Toronto, same deal I think, but not in some of it's outlying "parts" which aren't officially a part of Toronto but are pretty much part of it as they've grown into each other. Not as sure about other areas. Haven't heard the best things about Newfoundland (supposed to be non-violent disapproval) or the prairie provinces (I know there is a lot of dissapproval in Alberta at least, but I don't know about whether it's violent or not). B.C. is supposed to be fine and Quebec definitely is at least in the major cities. I haven't a clue about the Territories and I assume the rest of the maritimes is probably similar to N.F. in that respect.... There are also parts of the states that are safe. San Fran. definitely, and I think N.Y. if you're careful you're not in an area that's violent anyway. A good indication of Canada's acceptance level on being queer is that gay marriage is legal and I've seen statistics (from about 4 years ago, and it's probably gotten better) that say that nearly %60 of Canadians approve of gay marriage. Ok, enough of the geo-political lesson.

Wow. Canada definitely goes on my list of places I want to go.
It actually has been for ages -- the pictures of Canadian wilderness and some of the wonderful people I've met IRL and online... I gotta get there before my final day.

I'd also disagree that it seems like no one cares in the backgrounds... That one guard looks disgusted and the other looks like he's turning to his coworker cuz he's extremely surprised to see that. I also saw a little boy in another of the pix that looked like he was thinking "what the hell??!!!" to me.

The guard looks surprised to me ("Huh??"), though I guess it could be disgust. At least nothing happened. They were able to keep kissing and taking photos. Of course it might have been different if there wasn't a photographer present... it's hard to say.
The little boy looks to me like he's looking at the ground.

This is a little like those psychology tests where you are shown a picture and asked to make up a story about it, isn't it. Maybe I get such a buzz from these pics because I want such things to be normal and unremarkable. :)

In the US I'm more worried about being the target of sexual harassment of the more sever kind instead of violence. I think, and I am by no means an expert, that gay males are generally the target of more violent reactions where as gay females are the target of the sexual assault type. ~.~;

=) I'd say Japan is pretty open minded... however my girlfriend and I have experienced problems on a personal level by earning the acceptance of her guardian. It's a very long story... :/ She reacted very harshly at first. I'm still very suspicious when it comes to her. >.>

On the [livejournal.com profile] lesbian community there was a piece written a while back by a girl in USA after she and her girlfriend were badly beaten up by some guys. It sickened and surprised me. I had thought that lesbianism was largely ignored in the USA, as it seems to be in a lot of the world.

Heheheh :) Queen Victoria made it invisible in England for a long time by flatly stating that it doesn't exist. Makes you wonder about her doesn't it. :)
