life is never boring

Some years ago a car ran into the back of mine when I was stationary at the traffic lights. It damaged my neck and not long afterwards I started to get extreme pain in my right arm and then to lose strength and feeling in it. When I saw a neurosurgeon he rushed me into hospital and operated on my neck. The nerve was being constricted where it exited from between the vertebrae and I would end up with a paralysed arm the way I was going. If the nerve died then it was extremely unlikely I'd ever regain use of it. So he drilled out the hole in my neck and I regained full use of my arm.

Recently I have once again been having similar pain in that same arm, though affecting different parts of it this time. When it gets particularly bad I even have numbness in my fingers. I'm not very happy about this. I really don't want that surgery again. When the nerosurgeon was telling me what to expect before the original operation he said that it would hurt more than I could imagine. He was right. But it did fix the problem.

Life sure isn't boring.

Oh no. :( Numbness in fingertips is bad. ; ; I'm sorry. :(

Yeah. I must admit I'm a little worried. But I'll try to ride it out. Aspirin is about the best thing for it, I think. Strong painkillers are useless and just mask it. Aspirin actually reduces the swelling that is the main problem.

I hope I'm not brining up bad memories but, was the surgery performed without anaesthetic?

*hug*
I know what the "fear of the pain again" feeling is like :(

No. I was put out completely for the operation, thank heavens. I have a scar about 4 inches long down the back of my neck where they cut it open, peeled back the skin and drilled out the vertebra where it was choking the nerve. The surgical pain resulted from my body healing all that.
