Microsoft up to their old nasty tricks

miriam_eA little while back Microsoft astounded the open-source community by announcing a deal with SuSe Linux. At the time many people mused that Microsoft might be reforming their evil ways, and may have seen the light, but I just thought they were going to use their old technique of embrace and extend.
Seems I was right, but I didn't realise just how low they were stooping. They are also using that other old favorite of theirs FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) along with divide and conquer. Goddam monsters.

Oh, and the "intellectual property" he is talking about? My bet is that it's that stupid "Start" button most Linuxes now have on the bottom left of the (inaccurately named) taskbar. The buttons on it representing windows might be another. both should be ditched. The window menu (which every Linux has) is far more suitable for listing windows.
Ballmer certainly has a gall. He threatens people over the desktop that Microsoft copied from Apple who copied it from Xerox PARC?? What a nerve! The nasty little sod.
Microsoft has retarded the development of computing by about a decade. Their demise can't occur fast enough in my view.

Date: 2006-11-21 08:00 am (UTC)CP/M was the biggest operating system in the world -- everybody who was anybody used it. It was the business system of choice. All the computer clubs had big CP/M libraries. Ummm... what's that you say? You've never heard of CP/M? Yes. Exactly.
China has the biggest population of any country on the planet, and the fastest growing middle-class. What is the national operating system of China? Linux. Gates tried to sell them MSWindows and was politely told to go away.
Look around the world and see what operating systems governments are adopting lately. It isn't MSWindows. Nobody trusts Microsoft. At least nobody who has their eyes open. With revelations regarding NSA back-doors into MSWindows, information about NSA staff working at the top levels of Microsoft, the fact that MS-MediaPlayer phones home to report on what you're watching, the ease of including other documents from anywhere on your computer into MSWord documents without your knowledge, and so on ad nauseum...
Microsoft has been building up bad feelings all over the world. You don't think that is gonna rebound? Just keep watching.
