Huh. Seems Kevin Rudd is in favor of more uranium mines. Oh well, he's dead in the water then. Shot himself in the foot the same way Latham did when he stuck his nose into gay people's bedrooms.

Let's just hope the Greens can get enough support to kill off the shit-heap the Liberal Party has become. ("Liberals"! What a joke! I get so sick of explaining to people overseas that we have two extremely conservative parties, neither described by their names: "Liberals" and "Labour".)

I have said this before, and I will no doubt say it again:
The expansion of uranium mining in Australia is a done deal, we're simply haggling over the price.

There is simply too much money to be made from uranium mining, too much pressure being swept into the corridors of power, for the morally correct decision to be made.

I hope you are wrong... but I have this awful sinking feeling...

I cannot understand the thinking of those in power who want short-term profits that will put nuclear weapons in the hands of the terminally paranoid and produce mountains of radioactive toxic waste that remains dangerous for literally billions of years. On top of all of that it is a non-renewable resource -- once we've screwed our children over it is back to square one in the energy stakes.

I guess those in power feel they don't have time to think -- their minders do their thinking for them... and heaven knows where their loyalties lie. If they are anything like some of the scum currently working in government and big business, it is all about money -- grab as much as you can and run, and to hell with the consequences.

I feel so sorry for the human race... sometimes I feel we genuinely have great promise. But it looks like we have given over responsibility for our lives to a bunch of crooks who don't care if they kill us all off... along with all the birds, flowers, corals, fish, dogs, dolphins, and wombats. Well, at least the cockroaches will probably survive.

I can read the signs. There is so much money being pumped into uranium exploration in Australia, and there is so much money to be made (check out Paladin ASX:PDX which has gone from 2c to more than $10 in five years).

An abundant, non-renewable resource. I don't know enough about the quality of the resource they're finding around the place, but I gather we might squeeze a few decades out of the high quality resources.

Not that it will do too much to reduce greenhouse gas production. Building N power won't have any affect for a decade or more, and will only lower new emissions, not reduce existing emissions.
