Margaret bought me the season 4, part 1 DVD set for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It contains one of my favorite episodes: Hush. That episode deliberately pushed the limits. Buffy is renowned for its smart and snappy dialogue (how I wish I could write like that), however series creator Joss Whedon was worried that he was becoming too comfortable, so decided to write an episode where most of the story has no dialogue at all! He also directed that episode and it forced him to work especially hard. The DVD set contains a narrated version of Hush where Joss explains what he was trying to achieve and gives wonderful insights into the process.

I am so envious of that amazing guy's genius. Hush is funny, scary, riveting.

I was going through some of my old Astounding Science Fiction magazines that date back to the mid 50s. Gee, there are such treasures there.

I am so privileged to have been raised on such inspiring brain-food. It is a pity I don't do more with the gifts I have.
