I know some people derive some kind of comfort in lying to themselves that there is a god, but I always thought a neurotic, insecure, needy god who demands constant praise, and who would impose utterly horrific punishment for the silliest infractions, is the opposite of comforting. I've never really understood why anybody would want it to exist, and I've always been grateful that it doesn't.

I don't recall seeing this earlier.

I've pretty much been an atheist as long as I can remember (was raised CoE but, never cared, never understood and realised by the time I capable of coherent thought, it was silly.

I've never really understood why anybody would want it to exist

I understand why: comfort, purpose and structure.

Me, now, I call myself a satanist. But only because TST's tenants rawk, but because they exist to troll the far right. And don't actually believe in Satan.

In the words of Marx "I'd never belong to a club that would have me as a member", so it's a half-hearted association.

But it feels more real than Pastafarian or Jedi (I was a Jedi in a census once, Satanist last time).
