Last night at Carly's party was very enjoyable. As a rule I don't do well at parties, but that is twice now that I have been to one of her parties and found myself involved and happy. I don't know what it is -- the pleasant friends she has? her delightful personality? or some kind of indefinable atmosphere thing? -- whatever, it was a pleasure.

We went to a club afterwards. While it was not a disaster for me (to my relief), I nevertheless felt a bit like a fish out of water. Talking was out of the question -- I just can't shout that loud. And listening to someone else shout directly into my ear was painful. I have to admit the visuals were interesting though. If I ever go to a club again I will try to remember to take sketch paper. There was lots of good material there for artwork -- many of the people there looked amazing. But I lapsed into reading a book on my Palm computer. I hope I didn't appear rude.

The [livejournal.com profile] writingcritic Summer Solstice writing competition has kicked off in a big way. Prize is US$15 towards online purchase of books.

It is such a cool idea.
There is no judge; the writingcritic community votes the winner in a poll on 6th July. There are almost no rules:
  - The subject has to be at least loosely associated with the topic "Summer Solstice"
  - Entries must be posted before 6th July
  - You can't vote for yourself

Simple!
Get writing folks!

(See contest details for more info.)
