I've added a new page to my waffles section, where I keep my ramblings and rants.
http://miriam-english.org/articles/biblical_bloopers.html

Unlike all the other stuff on my site I didn't create the content myself. I grabbed it from a cool site called EvilBible.com. The page I copied is a very nice list of more than 200 contradictions in the bible. The original, though admirable, is a little hard to read, so I spent quite a while this morning reformatting it. The owner of the site states that anything without specific copyright notices is free to re-use, though he'd like people to mention where they got it from. This is only sensible. His site is a nice resource, so I'm delighted to send more people his way.

With respect to the list itself, I almost feel guilty publishing it on my site. It feels like I'm taking advantage of cripples; like shooting fish in a barrel. The bible is so terribly flawed, indeed all old texts are, let alone religious ones, that it feels a little unfair to be pointing out how broken it is. However I think I'm doing the right thing because of the absurd level of power religion in general, and Christianity in particular, holds, even now in the 21st Century, when we should, by rights, have long abandoned ancient superstitions. They should be merely curiosities, embarrassments to smile over in wonderment of how crazy our species' infancy was. Sadly, many people (most?) are still lost in those dark superstitions. When I contemplate the number of people I know -- many of them good, honest, intelligent people -- whose minds are hobbled by the blight of religion I fear sometimes that we may never escape its shadow.

Read the list then, and ask yourself why people who believe in the book that carries all these inanities never actually read the book they use to rule their lives. Read it and try not to weep. Instead, try to see hope in the fact that we can now publish such blasphemy without fear of our lives. Well, so long as we don't stray into the even worse maelstrom of lunacy, Islam.
