There are some talks by Muhammad Yunus up on SIConversations.

If you don't know who he is then that is a perfect example of how useless the mainstream media is.

This wonderful Bangladeshi guy has helped millions of people escape poverty. He did it with a very simple idea. He gave collateral-free micro-loans to poor people, mostly women, so that they could have a say in their own future. This became a bank whose purpose is to help poor people instead of rich people. It is called the Grameen Bank.

Yunus' work has had such a dramatic impact that he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

It shows how a simple idea can change things for the better.

The ASX-listed Incremental Petroleum (ASX:IPM) started using this about 18 months ago on their field in Turkey, just before Yunus won his Nobel Prize.

I've always liked them for that.

7,000 people live within their oil field, in some pretty poor conditions.
That they give back to that community where they don't have to, even if it is a small part of their post-tax revenue, is a start.
