nuclear stupidity
Sep. 2nd, 2007 10:53 amEven if nuclear power wasn't inherently so dangerous, risking catastrophic consequences for generations to come in the event of a mistake
...even if it didn't increase the availability of nuclear weapons for any idiot with a grudge or desire to blackmail
...even if centralising power hadn't been shown again and again to be insecure and costly
...even if running glorified steam engines using countless tonnes of water in the driest continent on Earth was not an incredibly shortsighted thing to do
...even if all those were not enough
...the winning argument would have to be that we simply can't trust the nuclear industry after its all its lies. Listen to and read about how the Australian and British governments covered up and lied about the "clean-up" after the 12 nuclear bomb tests conducted in Australia (about 85% of the plutonium from the tests is still scattered over the land surface). The industry and governments had every opportunity to do the job properly, but chose to deceive and fudge instead. How can we ever trust these bumbling sociopaths with our childrens' safety???
Additional: Another clincher argument is that any nuclear power plant begun right now won't come online until well after the point where climate change becomes possibly irrevocable. Significant greenhouse reductions nust be made well before that point, so nuclear power is no answer at all to climate change.
