The latest part of my Selena City story about a lesbian security worker in a near future where sexuality is not an issue.

part 7 Memories (2612 words)

This took forever to write. I kept going over and over it. I'm so close to it now that I have no idea at all what it is like. It was originally going to be about twice this long, but I'm taking too much time so the rest of this chapter will have to go up tomorrow as a separate one. Sorry about that.

Let me know what you think of it.

Thanks Annie :)
More memories coming up. We'll be at the conference discussing the future of society. I hope to hell I don't make it boring. That's what scares me most. I know I'm not supposed to edit during NaNoWriMo, but I can't help it sometimes. Problem is after going over it a number of times I cease being able to make sense of the chapter. And that is really scary.

It's a bit of a tightrope you're walking. Selena City reminds me so much of Arthur C Clarke's 3001. You both want to describe this New World and explore the aspects and make the reader think, ruminate, but you don't want it to be devoid of a story. So far I think you're doing a really good job with the balance, but just be careful...

(coincidentally, can I take this opportunity to say that you're an amazing woman? just had a quick flit across your website, and reminded me. :)

Yeah, it's very unnerving. That balance is freaking me out.

Arthur C Clarke used to be one of my very favorite writers, but I don't know why, I just kinda stopped reading his stuff. Oddly, I read his Deep Range near the end of October. I'd been looking for a reference he makes in one of his books that leaders should be picked for their ability and the fact that they don't want power, then dragged kicking and screaming into office, getting time off for good behavior. I'd thought the reference was in Deep Range which one of my old girlfriends had read, but it isn't. I haven't read 3001. Maybe it's in that.

The reason I was looking for the reference? It becomes apparent in the next part of the story.

:) Thank you for the nice words.

:) heheheh Thanks.
I'm relieved. I honestly didn't know what that part was like by the time I posted it. I hope I don't go over today's one quite so obsessively. It basically continues the same chapter, spending more time on the conference where they meet an interesting person.

I love this chapter! It's so physical. There's a balance of the lovely and comfortable feelings with the MC's sadness. The description Adele gives of Brenda while on Earth is so nice. he part aboutt he dresses is so true.

The mystery is building and I'm really interested in how it all works out.

:) Thanks.
Got a lot of groundwork still to cover, and I'm going so slowly. I don't know how you manage, holding down a job during NaNo -- I am flat-out just doing my damn story. :)

More than 22 thousand words!!! How in hell do you do it? You are amazing!

Heh heh, chocolate. Lots of chocolate. And hot cocoa. And new CDs to bribe my muse.

And it also helps that I already know my novel sucks and I give myself treats every chapter by including gratuitous details like my female MC oogling all the other lovely women in the story and having naughty thoughts.

The job thing isn't so bad at the moment. I had this huge long class three times a week that just ended (yays!!) so that freed up a lot of time. XD

Darn! There goes my chance of stealing your secret. I don't like chocolate. Curses! :)

Music is another thing. I have more than 2,000 trance tracks queued up on my computer. It does wonders.

I truly, truly doubt your story sucks. I'm really looking forward to reading it.

I wish I could have my character doing naughty things, but for the purposes of the story she needs to be a really good person. I'll remember to make my future characters less self-restrained. :)

I'm really glad to hear your workload has reduced somewhat. Go you!

:) Thanks. That makes me feel quite a bit better. I've been getting very frustrated with the latest part. I keep writing stuff, realising it doesn't really work, and scrapping it. I am running sooo far behind. Eeek!

I just had a long talk on the phone with an old friend this morning and maybe it has given me a way to fix some problems with today's part. Hopefully it gets posted in a few more hours. [gulp]

:) You're doing beautifully. Quite honestly it's not so easy to keep my attention and you're doing so rather well.
Good job. :)

:) Thanks. I hope tonight's installment works. Once again I'm too close to it so have no real idea of how it reads.
