chapter 11
Nov. 21st, 2007 07:21 pmThe latest part of my Selena City story about Adele, a lesbian in a near future where sexuality is not an issue.
part 11 Endanger (2530 words)
Darn. So much for catching up. I just keep slipping behind. I can't stop my obsessive little self from checking and re-checking stuff. Even then I know there are a lot of problems that need work. Eeeek!
Let me know what you think of it.

My internet computer's hard drive died yesterday. I had to pull the computer apart, remove the boot hard drive and boot it on a Puppy CD. I've still got lots of stuff, but lost all my email for the last few months as I'd been pretty slack about backing up. The last backup was in September. Oops. Oh well... could have been worse.

Date: 2007-11-23 05:52 am (UTC)I'm also anxiously awaiting that moment that Adele and Brenda can get back together. There is some serious unfinished business going on there. *grin*
You're doing an amazing job. It's not hard for me to immerse myself into the characters here, the atmosphere. It's been a pleasure to read.

Date: 2007-11-23 12:44 pm (UTC)I'd love to get to the Netherlands one day... and Sweden. Sweden is one of the places in the world I most want to visit.
I realised after a while that I shouldn't have really used the word "prostitutes". Much better would have been to use Joss Whedon's word, "companion". It avoids all that baggage. In his short-lived TV series Firefly and the sequel movie Serenity, companions (prostitutes) were among the most highly respected members of society. I've had a number of friends in the past who were prostitutes and it always struck me how divorced from reality the public perception is. One friend used to get quite angry about feminists who would say she was being exploited. She would point out that she was getting rich off poor stupid clients who were ruled by their penises. Who was exploiting who? And then I also had some friends who ended up spiralling into drugs and either never coming out the other side, or emerging somewhat damaged. I have to admit that I never had any direct experience with prostitution though, either as client or prostitute. I'm too chicken. :)
Yep. Brenda and Adele are going to build up the suspense for a little while. They came very close to releasing that pent up sexual tension in today's chapter. I didn't want them to, for purposes of plot development, but gosh! I had a difficult time persuading them not to. Sometimes characters really want to write a story a certain way, and it is getting harder and harder to get these two to stick to the plot. :)
I'm really glad you're enjoying it. I hope chapter 12 (just posted) works. Once again I'm too close to be able to tell. It looks to me like just boring dialogue, which scares me. Oh well, I guess I can fix it in the rewrites. :(
