Whisper of the Heart

Some time ago I mentioned here that I'd been given, through the informal file sharing networks, a small, rather blurry copy of the film "Whisper of the Heart". It since became probably my favorite film of all. I'd shown it to my niece, Lois, who came to love it too, and through her, my sister, Sue.

Today Sue visited me, bringing a DVD of "Whisper of the Heart" she'd bought. We watched it together and I fell in love with it all over again. What a truly marvellous piece of work that film is. Not long after it began I had goosebumps. I chuckled at many points and sighed with tears in my eyes at a few parts of the story. It is not often that I find such a relentlessly, unapologetically optimistic story, and one that has such wise observations to make about the human condition, making them with gentle humor and depth of emotion. This is a film that, by the time it ends leaves you refreshed, invigorated, uplifted. Many films these days leave you feeling like you've been put through an emotional wringer, exhausted, spent. I wish I had many more stories here that buoyed the mind like Whisper does.

I want to write something that feeds the mind the way Whisper does... though unfortunately it won't be this year.

I've never seen it. I'll try to find a copy.

There might be a low resolution copy on the disks I sent. In fact I'll send a better version. Stand by... :)

Sorry I didn't get back for so long. Have unfortunately been avoiding my email.

You spoil me! You know that, right? Some day I'm going to have to go to Australia and dress myself head to foot in pictures of your favorite characters from what you've sent me and skip around your living room singing. Possibly the Daria theme song.

heheheh :) You nut. :)

Yes, but you can't deny you would laugh.

Smile.

:D hysterically!

My sister is visiting today. Before she leaves this afternoon ("this arvo", in Australian) I'll give her the disk to pop in the mail. It should get there in about a week.

I hope you had a great time with your sister! Never did have one of those. And thanks so much for the disk! I'm excited!

Off topic. Hi! I havnt talked to you in a fair while. I am saving to come back to oz for a bit. maybe aprilish. would you be able to get down to melbourne if I were to be there?

[identity profile] miriam-e.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY!!!! Woo hoo!!!

I'll try to save my pennies. It occurs to me that I'd love to show you the Sunshine Coast. What if, instead of saving to fly myself down to Melbourne I sent you a ticket from Melbourne to up here for a while? (For as long as you want.)

Depends on how long you'll be in Oz of course, and you'll probably be pretty flat out in Melbourne while here. Does the idea interest you?

If you don't have anywhere to crash in Melbourne I know someone who I'm certain would love to meet you and I'm sure she'd have space for you to sleep while there. That would reduce your costs tremendously.

If you came up here (to Sunshine Coast) for a little part of your visit to Oz I'd be delighted if you stayed with me. You'd have your own room upstairs with balcony looking out on the valley.

Honestly, I don't have much interest in going up to QLD. I am told the weather is much like that in Florida. I do not like the sun. Also, I will be lucky if i can get more than 2 weeks off to come to oz, so I want to spend that in Melbourne. But I would really really love to see you!

No worries. :)
I have something to save my money for then. :D
Looking forward very much to seeing you again. You'll hardly recognise me. My hair is gray now and I've cut it short.

Oh no... Please tell me you are not turning into a little old lady! I liked your long curls. You need to send me a picture of you now!

heheheh :)
A tall, skinny, ugly, old lady. :)
Nah. I probably don't look much different.
I'll send a pic soon.

Well you were always tall and skinny... lucky wench!
