I'm baaaack
Oct. 5th, 2003 02:14 amWell, I'm finally online again after various assorted problems, including my main computer dying!
It took me more than half an hour tonight to download my email -- 802 messages!! most of which were spam... grrrr!
Seems to be some problem with my email -- I can't send. I'll get it sorted out tomorrow or Monday.
This place I've moved into is wonderful. I can only see one other house in the valley from this property. There are a few other houses in the valley but they are over other hills kms in each direction. Today I stood entranced while a wallaby grazed about a dozen steps from me just outside the house. I wake each morning to a veritable chorus of birds, including kookaburras, which I didn't realise lived here. The other day I threw out some waste food and a bearded lizard (about 18 inches long) came out of the garden to investigate. I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid and used to catch, draw, and release them and snakes. I believe there are a lot of snakes here, but have only seen one rather large (dangerous-looking) one so far. Apparently there is a cute carpet python living here too. I'm hoping to see it -- it will help keep any adventurous rodents under control. I had forgotten how many insects and spiders live in the country (I grew up in the bush and am not squeamish about them). Oh, and there is the sweetest-looking enormous green tree frog living in the toilet cistern.
*big sigh of contentment*

Date: 2003-10-12 01:27 am (UTC)The green tree frog living in the top of the toilet -- he is about the size of a tennis ball and a darker green than the photo shows. It is sooo pretty.
Looking south, up to the front of the house. See my balcony? I haven't seen the peacock since moving in.
Looking north, down the hill, from my balcony. The preceding picture was taken from the start of that little path leading away from the cleared area.
Looking west from my balcony. The wallaby that was grazing here the other day would have been just barely visible in this pic at the bottom left of the image, but you would have only seen its head when standing up. It was only about 12 steps from where this pic is taken.
Looking eastward up the valley from the eastern edge of the property.
Looking up the driveway towards the house. You can see only about a third of the driveway here; twice as much is behind me, leading down to the road.
