Susan George is an incredibly smart lady. I heard her talking ages ago and had the exquisite feeling of a lot of things that were wrong about the world, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle suddenly falling into place. I began to get a feeling for how there can be a relentless pressure for things to go awry, for people to be dispossessed and become slaves in everything but name, all this without some evil conspiracy. All it needs is for us to simply go along with wrongs without trying to change them. Susan George tries hard to change them. She is amazing.

She was interviewed on Book Talk on Australia's Radio National the week before last. The audio (as crappy RealAudio streaming audio unfortunately) is online along with the transcript at the Book Talk homepage http://www.abc.net.au/rn/arts/booktalk/default.htm

Also, if you hurry you can still catch the talk by David North on The Crisis in American Democracy online there too. Because Radio National only keep the last 4 shows online, that one will disappear in a couple of days because the most recent interview with Adam Hochschild on his book Bury The Chains on slavery in England was broadcast today. The audio and transcript will be up there in a few days. That was an extremely informative show too. It tells how slavery was ended. It wasn't done the way you think it was.

I should mention the very entertaining Book Talk interview with Michael Bywater about his new book Lost Things too. Audio and transcript are up there.
