Wow. Today I got an email purporting to be copied from an editorial in an Australian newspaper. If that is its source then that newspaper is scary trash and the writer is seriously brain-damaged. I've included it in the cut below.

Australia - The Right to Leave

Our Country - YOU HAVE the right - the right to LEAVE !

"IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.

However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia.

However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.

This idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.

This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our National Motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, Because God is part of our culture.

If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like " A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, And we really don't care how you did things where you came from.

This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this.

But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

"THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".

If you aren't happy here then p#@* off! We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted. Pretty easy really, when you think about it.

Australia isn't a christian country, nor muslim, nor hindu, nor buddhist; it has been shaping up to be the most non-religious country on the planet, and needs to be protected against creeping religiosity before it causes real damage to our society.

One of the best things we always had going for us is that with our cultural cringe we always considered that we had no culture. It made us one of the most refreshing and open places in the world. Unfortunately, the past was recently rewritten in very Orwellian fashion by the current leaders. Now because of this deliberate and surreptitious boosting of patriotism we are leaving ourselves open to the hate and violence that other countries have long been prey to.

The guy who wrote that column doesn't believe in a "fair go". He believes that others have to do what he wants or else! That is not a fair go.

He is right that it is our land. We stole it from the previous owners. He needs to remember that when he asserts some moral superiority.

Our experiment in multiculturalism was working pretty well until the forcing of ghettos by ignorant racist freaks like this guy. Ghettos are a really, really bad idea because it leads to an "us and them" siege mentality. True multiculturalism is a very good idea because the influx of new ideas helps a culture grow, change, and adapt. The minute a culture stops changing it starts to stagnate and die.

If we need to eject anybody from this country it is haters of humanity like him.

This guy sounds a lot like some of the people who're screwing up this country.

Australia sounds like a very wonderful place. I hope I will get to see it some day. I hope it doesn't allow its religious fanatics to run things, the way our country has.

It has not been a bad place to live so far. We have deserved the unofficial label of "the lucky country". It is pretty scary up where I've moved to though, where there seems to be the highest concentration of religious nuts in the country.

I'm amazed that so few people seem to see that peace seems to have an inverse relationship with religion.

Why do I suspect

...that this wingnut isn't aboriginal (Native Australian? Sorry, ignorant foreigner)?

How insane do right-wing Americans and Australians have to be not to realize they're immigrants?

Oh, and a couple of waves of anti-immigration back, a member of the Cherokee tribe in Oklahoma was asked his opinion of having tighter immigration laws, and he replied he was for them, and he wished they'd had them 300 years ago.

Heheheh. As usual Bob, you are far from iggerant. :) And I don't really consider you a foreigner as I consider myself a citizen of the Earth rather than of just Australia.

I love that Cherokee's slant on immigration. I seem to recall an Australian aborigine saying something similar recently. :) It should be a wake up call to the nuts who are too quick to make pronouncements dividing people arbitrarily into "us" and "them". But of course it won't. People don't like to remove their blinkers.
