I'm getting excited

I've started working out the plot and characters to my NaNoWriMo story. Last night saw quite a bit of development on that front.

I'm not sure if I should post my story here or wait till it is done and provide a link at the end.
Anybody got any thoughts on that?

If I post the parts maybe some people will read it as I go and offer encouragement. On the other hand I seriously doubt anybody follows my LJ regularly. If some do they would be unlikely to have the time to read the story. The subject matter alone is likely to turn many off.

The story will be a romance (that sound was all the guys running away) science fiction (there go most of the girls, exiting too). The central relationship will be between a woman and her android who is also female. (A few people trickle back perhaps.) It will be a story about how the very near future (just 20 years away) affects people and what is the definition of human. (OK, I just lost those who had trickled back. They've wandered away saying "Boring!")

I hope it won't be boring.

So... should I post the parts here?

Post it! I just started reading your journal. I'm not sure if my opinion matters (it probably doesn't-haha), but I'd enjoy reading it!

Thanks. I shall post it then.

Of course your opinion matters :) ...especially after visiting your LJ and getting a tiny peek into your mind. Whoa! Nice mind.

heheheh :)
Thanks Seal. I'll post it.
Hope it is worth reading.

Heh. In keeping with my indeterminate results in gender tests, I didn't run away in the first place, and I stayed there too. The premise actually sounds pretty interesting.

I don't guarantee I'll readi it all, but post away... :)

Heheheh. I must admit to feeling somewhat neuter myself.
Thanks for the vote. :)

Starting midnight tomorrow night it starts all tumbling out.
(Hope it is worth all the drum-roll.)

i'd read your story, too

"It will be a story about how the very near future (just 20 years away) affects people and what is the definition of human."

have you read any of Marge Peircy's books? i'm thinking in particular of "He, She, and It".

[identity profile] miriam-e.livejournal.com 2005-10-30 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks :)

No, I haven't heard of her.
Wow! I just read the recommendations on Amazon. It sounds wonderful. I'm going to have to search it out. Unfortunately it looks like there's no electronic version (I prefer electronic books). I'll keep an eye out for a paper copy.

I'm very grateful for the suggestion.

Yes, post! I might not have time to read every day, but would be happy to read. Go for it!

Marge Piercy is wonderful, read anything you can get your hands on. I don't always agree with her or even necessarily like her books, but she makes me think, and that's good.

Cool :) Thanks.
After NaNoWriMo, assuming I'm not completely defeated by the project, I'll tighten up the finished book and post it online as html.
If it turns out the way I'm hoping I may even illustrate parts of it.

(I love that icon, by the way. Death is one of Neil Gaiman's best characters. How amazing to so completely question preconceptions and tradition, and produce a character like that!)

Books that make one think are such a rarity. Have you read any books by Greg Egan?

Anybody got any thoughts on that?

The added expectation of others wanting to see the latest might help if motivation lapses.

I think it would make me too nervous though.

Oops... dunno how I missed answering this. I've been buried in this story.
Yep, I decided that posting adds to my motivation. It does make me nervous though, especially since churning out between 1600 and 2000 words a day pretty-much guarantees quality can't be high.

Doing my best though.

You can always post snippets. You know, tease us with the most exciting bits every so often :-)

and good luck!

Decided to post the whole thing. :)

Thanks Sandra. Good luck to you with yours too.

Hi,

I saw you post in [livejournal.com profile] lesbian. I'm adding you to my friends' list unless you mind me doing that. I plan to start reading your story and you generally seem like an interesting person, so I had to add you.

Good luck with the writing :)

[identity profile] miriam-e.livejournal.com 2005-11-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. :)

You are most welcome to add me. Thanks for the compliment.
Mind if I add you back? I just took a look at your LJ info and from that tiny peek into your mind you seem interesting too.

I regret I won't be able to keep up with my friends for the rest of November with this NaNoWriMo thing -- frantic production of dumb novel and all. :)

[identity profile] perpetualundies.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the add :) There probably won't be much to read in my journal anyway for a while as I'm trying to start a community , so you don't have to worry about not keeping up with my news - I won't have any lol.

Have a great, and productive, day :)
