Was chatting to a friend tonight and we got to talking about the imminent war. I was wondering about the lack of evidence contrasting with the strong assurances that Hussein has weapons that violate his agreements. I wasn't buying it, saying that although I would not be too surprised if he did have such weapons, the inability of the US to come up with real evidence actually makes it kinda convincing that such weapons don't exist. I figured that if they really had evidence it would be immediately splashed all over the headlines.
My friend pointed out that there is another explanation. There may be genuine evidence that Hussein has these terrible weapons, but US may be too embarrassed to release it if the evidence consists of receipts from US manufacturers selling them to Hussein. They were, after all, backing Hussein against Iran just a little while back weren't they?
It is just screwy enough to be possible.
