miriam_eI had been wondering why our nasty prime minister had been suddenly siezed with a desire to propagandise the abuse of children in Aboriginal communities. It is clearly propaganda because the child abuse is related to poverty, not to color of skin. So why rush in right now with strongarm tactics and lots of police and armed troops? Why risk having his racism highlighted again? I'd previously chalked it up to diversionary tactics... except there doesn't seem to be anything particularly delicate to distract from just now... so, why?
Well, it seems he is getting ready to make a big land-grab by using the child abuse propaganda to justify changes to land rights legislation. And guess who would benefit from that? His pals, the uber-wealthy mining weasels. Howard has no interest in children's rights. He wants that land and he'll stoop to anything to get it.
So next time someone talks about child abuse in black communities, please correct them. Point out that child abuse tends to flourish in deprived communities. Depriving those communities even further by taking their land away will make it worse, not better.
Instead of spending heaps of money on armed theft of people's minerals (East Timor, Iraq, Aboriginal land), it would be nice if we used the money to actually help people.
