hydrogen powered vehicles are a little closer

Interesting piece. Not only is it optimistic for hydrogen power (though more cautious than I would like), but it also takes it as a given that the war with Iraq is about oil.

The article has a pic of a beautiful test vehicle that already exists. It seems to me that the automobile industry could start tooling up for production right now if they really wanted. Don't let the $5 million price tag bother you either. Prototypes are always expensive and mass production always dramatically lowers prices.

I think I'd be a little afraid to work at GM at this point. I don't give in to the manufactured media paranoia that goes on, but the Saudi kings are not very nice people. And I think they'd take personal offense to a car that doesn't use gasoline.

No, but the implications of a non-oil-dependent Western world are enormous. That alone, I think, would mark the end of the 20th century, which has been dragging on for a while. What does it mean for America? What does it mean for the future? It's an exciting world and I'm glad I'll get to see it.
