surprise!!!
Apr. 7th, 2004 09:44 pmAs you may know, there are large green tree frogs in my toilet and I often have to remove them before using it. Well today I got a big surprise. There was a large snake in the toilet, presumably eating one of the poor frogs. I described it to my Mum over the phone afterwards and she assured me that it is almost certainly a harmless green tree snake. It sure was a big one. I didn't see it all, but I estimate it to be about a meter long. It managed to squeeze itself up under the rim of the toilet and hide entirely from sight... not a very comforting ability.
I went and pissed outside. :)
Much later I absolutely had to use the toilet. I searched high and low but couldn't find the snake anywhere. The most reassuring thing was that a few items on the bench in there had been knocked over. I don't think it was in the toilet anymore. Certainly it didn't show itself, and the toilet flushes fine now.
Poor frogs.

I am always careful to turn on the bathroom light before going in there because it would be a simple matter for a snake to accidentally wander in from outside, but I only really check the floor.
Afterwards I snuck back in looking for the snake again, peering all around -- even up in the rafters, because it was a tree snake, remember. :)
I forgot to mention that the other night the great, big, fat, mother possum visited in the covered entrance area that joins the rest of the house to the bathroom. I wonder if she still has her baby. Did I tell about her and her baby some time back? I can't remember.
There certainly is no lack of wildlife here.
