I am on the verge of rescinding my moderately strong vegetarian beliefs. I just spent a couple of hours trying to shoo some *stupid* *stupid* *stupid* cattle off this land. They got in through the fence somehow and had been stripping the garden as well as pooping all over the place.

I undid a segment of the fence and tried to herd them back out through it. Two of the cattle happily wandered through, but the other two steadfastly refused. Actually, I'm being a little over-critical calling them stupid. They probably have every reason to think that if a human wants them to go in that direction then it is the very last thing they should consider.

The one who is stupid is clearly me. Here was me, running back and forth across the damn paddock trying to head them off each time they'd start off in the wrong direction again. I was doing all this after I'd been up for half the day and had forgotten to have breakfast yet. After something more than an hour of this my lungs were aching, my legs were all trembly, and now I have a headache. Yep, much dumber than a cow.

Oh well, at least I got a little exercise instead of just sitting in front of the computer all day. I should probably be more careful though. Good way to get a heart attack.

I really don't think it's coincidence that the people least concerned with animal rights are the ones who actually have to live with them. That's not an argument for or against vegetarianism, since the (white) people who have been historically most pro-slavery are also the ones who spent a lot of time around slaves.

For example, living on a subsistence farm gave me a deep, deep loathing of chickens.
