Tuesday, 20 September 2005 04:25 amBoo hoo!!!!
I drove my car over my Palm after it fell unseen out of my pocket.
It is cracked and warped, remarkably intact, but dead.

Date: 2005-09-19 10:48 pm (UTC)There is a bright side to everything no matter how terrible. Destroying my Palm has cast me adrift in time again and feels quite scary, but the cartoony image of me somehow running over my own hand cracked me up. :)
I should explain that "lost in time" thing.
All my life I have had an inability to see or plan time. I have great difficulty remembering appointments, or getting a perspective on recent events. It is like being permanently lost. When I got my first Palm all that suddenly changed. It was like getting hearing aids or glasses -- all the things I intellectually knew were there could suddenly be seen and manipulated. It was wonderful, and I had become very used to not having to worry about it anymore. Now I am suddenly back in that pea-soup fog and can't see anything once again. I hope I can earn enough money to get a Palm again soon.

Date: 2005-09-20 01:09 am (UTC)I gave my old Palm to my sister (everybody in my family has the same time-blindness). I don't think she really uses it though, so I might see if I can get it back for a while.

Date: 2005-09-20 01:36 am (UTC)It is the same with everyone in my family except my Dad.
When I first got my Palm it was like a revelation. Suddenly I could see and manipulate time for the first time in my life.
Heheheh. :) I didn't use the games and had deleted them. I had a lot of writing on there though. Luckily it has all been backed up on my desktop computer. I enjoyed listening to mp3 music and talks on the Palm and I miss those.

Thought I'd ruined my tv, yesterday.
I identify.
Oh, and thanks for worrying about me! ^_^
I'm in Oklahoma, tho. We only worry about
tornados. Those hurricanes usually don't
make it this far -- ar ar.

Date: 2005-09-20 02:25 am (UTC)That's very appropriate, considering that I see my Palm as an extra lobe of my brain.
I saw a mate's after it jumped out if his pannier, danced on the spokes of his bike and then bounced/skidded on the road. The screen was cracked and black and the case scratched/dented. He attached it to the wall of his study like a memorial plaque. ;)
Fortunately, when he got a replacement and synched it with his computer, all his data was there.
Good luck with yours! :)

Date: 2005-09-20 10:33 pm (UTC)I was going to pull mine apart and peek at its innards (I love pulling machines apart). If I can get a new screen for it I just might be able to persuade it to work.
I've been waiting for someone to say something about how paper doesn't die when run over by a car so that I can point out that I can easily transfer all the data to another machine as I have it all backed up on a few desktop computers, like your friend did. You can't do that when you lose paper data to fire or water or theft.
I probably won't buy a replacement Palm till the new Linux-based ones come out... soon... [salivate, drool]

Date: 2005-09-20 10:56 pm (UTC)Some time back when I was in a virtual world with a girl from USA we spent a couple of hours chatting while exploring the world. It was a puzzle world with a number of neat things to solve. Anyway, we ended up flying up to stand atop one of the buildings, looking down on the street below while we chatted. At one point she had to leave for a little while, so I waited with her motionless avatar (an avatar is the body you "wear" in a virtual world). Shortly she returned and said she'd had an enjoyable time and explained that she had to go because a storm and tornado may be headed her way and she had to round up the pets and make things safe. It turned out she was only 12 years old (I'd thought she was in her late 20s) and she was the only one looking after the farm that afternoon. Amazing kid.
