The latest part of my Selena City story about Adele, a lesbian in a near future where sexuality is not an issue.

part 12 Checking (3282 words)

Wow! Looks like I've found out how to keep my word count up: just have my internet computer's hard drive self-destruct. My own fault really. I should have moved all that machine's data to a newer drive long ago. They only last several years. It's a good thing I have different computers for different purposes, but I've lost all my email for the last few months. [groan] Thank heavens for Puppy Linux, because it lets me boot my machine without my boot hard drive.

So, anyway... today's chapter... I'm not sure it works very well. Once again I'm too close to it to be able to see it. I'm sure it could be written much better, but that'll have to wait till December for the editing.

Let me know what you think of it.

hee! awesome.

I don't know if it's that I'm tired or not, but the beginning starts off a little rough, but the rest is fine.

Ah. Yes. I just re-read the beginning, and you're right. It reads more like notes. I'll have to rewrite that later (probably in December) to play out in more detail.

Thanks for that. I appreciate it.

Glad you enjoyed it. This one scares me a bit because I completely lost sight of what I was writing and had to just hope that it wasn't too awful. Basically I would just elaborate on my notes and then my characters would just take off and pull me along for the ride. Scary.

aww I loved that chapter! I love how Brenda and Adele are together again, but youve not got 'em hopping in the sack every five seconds- making their relationship a lot more real, and sweet =) (if that makes any sence? :P) And I really loved Marcie's story- about the two guys- I wish I was part of this word you're creating! it sounds so beautiful!

I really look forward to reading more- I can't wait to find out of they find anything in the pipes :D hope you get your computer sorted out :)

heheh :) Thanks. Believe me, Adele and Brenda really wanted go nuts today, but my story notes don't really allow for it, so I had a real battle making them take it easy.

I like them being more gently affectionate too. It is more how I like my own relationships. Mind you I also love Karin Kallmaker romances. They are at times really, really hot and sweaty. :)

My net computer will have to wait till the book's finished I think. I've got it booting off a Puppy Linux CD in the meantime. I'm writing this on my main computer, which connects to the net through the troublesome one.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'd love to be part of that world too. One of the main reasons for writing this story is to add my little push to the effort to try and help bring that world about... well, the good parts of that world. :) I think it is definitely coming.

I just have to tease you... ---> "We both loved that series from way back at the turn of the century. Dark Angel. Jessica Alba was sooo hot!" For whatever reason it made Coke shoot out my nose because I was trying to picture Adele saying it off the cuff.

I also liked the addition of Marcie. I liked the ease at which Adele and her were able to get into conversation. The past that they had was also a nice touch, reminds me of someone I knew in my life.

Oh, where can I get one of those gecko suits? *grin* That seemed absolutely incredible!

heheheh :)
Marcie is built on ummm... me. :) (Tall, skinny, pale, unattractive... reserved in public, but ummm not in private :)
I wasn't really expecting her to mention Jessica Alba, but I let it stand because I positively go weak at the knees when I see her in Dark Angel. The only way I could do it was to have Adele and her enjoy the old show, like the way I still enjoy old silents from time to time. It is a bit of a stretch to think that a recent pop-culture show would be a favorite of theirs though. :)

You should be able to get a gecko suit very soon. They are in development. The technology already exists. It mimics the system that geckos actually use, with zillions of microscopic hairs that cling electrostatically to surfaces. Before you can buy a gecko suit though the primary application will almost certainly be home appliances that stick together without screws or glue, that can be simply pulled apart and put together again.

All it depends on now is how greedy the licensors of the technology are. If they let it be cheap then it will become ubiquitous, but if they're too greedy (like Barnsley and Sloan were with their fractal compression system) then it won't matter how good it is, it won't become available. (Thank you stupid patent and copyright systems.)

I really liked that they're taking it slow.
And yes, Jessica Alba is a hottie. and Aishwarya Rai (I'm sure you've heard of her, have you?) makes me want to scream, she's gorgeous. Haha

Yes, I'd like to see The Last Legion, in which Aishwarya Rai stars.

I like this chapter! It's very gratifying to see how criminals are dealt with there. I want a gecko suit too! It would be fun to scamper around in it.

There have been a lot of attempts to truly reform criminal behavior, but they all require thought and creative solutions. Unfortunately standard, hierarchical institutions are not great at either of those. It is much easier to give in to the old punishment mindset. It has never really worked, but people's feeling that it should work has always been enough.

One day we might have a society where people who've committed crimes are repaired and become useful members of society, rather than further damaged and go on to wreak more havok in society.

Cool :) Thanks.

Nothing wrong with being slack from time to time... unless you're in the middle of NaNoWriMo and trying to finish before the end of the month. Uhhh, I'm the Queen of slack. It will be a miracle if I get this in on time.
