The latest part of my Selena City story about Adele, a lesbian in a near future where sexuality is not an issue.

Warning for those who are uncomfortable with sexuality. Today's chapter gets just a tiny bit steamy.

part 10 Remember (2039 words)

Took me a while. Sorry folks. I think I'm back into it now. This chapter was going to be more about Brenda teaching at school, but I had problems bridging into it so I moved up something that was originally going to happen later. Hope it works okay.

Let me know what you think of it.

I'm liking it! Yeah it was a little steamy but you managed to pull it off :)
As for me having a lot of material..yeah I definitely do! I'm not sure about Film/Theatre but I'm definitely going to write professionally (as well as whatever else I decide to do). I'm thinking of doing English and Philosophy at university :)
It really sucks having a crush on her.. it really does! What makes it worse is that she is so friendly and touchy-feely! lol.

Anyway, I really liked this chapter.

Thank you. :)

Philosophy is something that I have a feeling will become more important in the future. It seems people are becoming more interested in understanding morality, what makes a good society, and how to achieve happiness. Once upon a time it seemed that you simply followed the rules and everything worked out right.

You might be interested in a weekly radio series here in Australia called Philosopher's Zone, downloadable from the net as mp3 audio:
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/philosopherszone/

The audio stays up for 4 weeks after its initial broadcast but the text transcripts stay online permanently. If you see an episode that you'd like to hear, but it is no longer online I might have it. If I have it I'll put it online for you on my website.

Thanks so much! I will check it out. Yeah I am really interested in philosophy, and especially in how philosophy and literature relate.

Very nice! Marcus is an interesting character. I'm wondering what's going to come out of his introduction. And the little bit of steaminess is very well done. *gets nosebleed* David and his bad timing! Ooh...

heheheh :)

I hope I get Marcus written properly. It is going to be a bit of a challenge to do properly. After writing the bit about Brenda being asleep and my rationale for it I decided to just do a little research online to doublecheck my explanation. Imagine my horror when I found that not only were my thoughts on sleep wrong, they were so out of date there wasn't even any reference to them online anymore! So I changed that bit to gloss over why she sleeps. Determined not to make a similar mistake with Marcus' sociopathy I spent a couple of hours today researching the topic. I'm relieved to see I still have a reasonably good understanding of it. Let's hope that translates into an interesting tale.

Yeah! Curse David. I told him not to interrupt the juicy bits, but you know these blasted characters. I'm only the writer. :)

It's a very good story, well written and engaging. But I had to laugh at this: "I had a great upswelling of affection." I suggest a more colloquial phrasing. :) Sometimes your literary voice sounds Vulcan. :)

It may be that you are correct. I shall have to cogitate upon this further before I reply in the affirmative or the negative... Captain.
[arches eyebrow]

:D

And thanks for the comments. I appreciate it.

Thank you for bringing the lesbian perspective to me. From what I'm gathering, we feel exactly the same about women, you just happen to be one.

"Just as you can't really fight a war to gain peace -- resentment simmers and war erupts again later." <----- Why on earth can't more people (World Leaders, specifically GWB) understand this rationale?

I have to say that reading the waking up part was very nice...*wiggle brows* It was nice to see Adele having a little bit of fun here. Unfortunately for the poor soul David just HAD to interrupt.

Also Marcus. I love the element of a potential danger. I don't know if it's this fear of the unknown about androids with me, but in my mind I have this feeling that when (because it's quickly becoming a when, not an if) humanoid androids become real, there is going to be more of this danger presented. I don't know if it will be possible for me (should I be on this earth to witness it) to truly trust one of these beings. I guess I am just wary. Silly, no?

Well, I'm moving on to Chapter 11 now.

As always it has been a pleasure to read.

I'm always surprised at how many people really do get that wars are a bad idea... even military people. Sadly it seems to be leaders who rarely understand. I long for a world without leaders. [sigh]

Heheheh :) I just had to give Adele and Brenda a bit of fun, even if I couldn't let it last. :)

I don't think androids will ever prove to be any danger to us, for the same reason dogs aren't. Any time a dog bites a human -- even if it is the human who is at fault -- the dog is destroyed. The same will be done to androids. It is a certainty. The result will be that they will end up being far better people than us, but I think we poor humans might never entirely lose our suspicion of them.

Of course there would be one group of androids that we'd have very good reason to be wary of: military ones. I hope that the near future will see the military stripped of power and funds. We can't afford the resources they consume and they are by far the greatest threat to all life on Earth -- worse than global warming, and even worse than a large asteroid impact. Life would bloom again decades or centuries after an asteroid, but the military could sterilise the planet in a radioactive hell that lasts for hundreds of millions of years.

If we can live another two or three decades we will see human-like androids, I think. It's already getting very close. Earlier in the year I was working on designing a computer language that would give robots some autonomous intelligence. I hope to return to that in the new year.
